Property listing checklist: prepare your home, apartment or land

Prepare a clear property listing with the right purpose, map location, price, currency, area, photographs and private contact details.

By MarkMyProperty · Updated

Decide exactly what you are offering

Start with one property and one purpose. Are you selling the whole home, renting a particular apartment, offering a plot, or simply recording a location? A marked property on MarkMyProperty is a location record; it is not automatically a sale advertisement. Select Sell or Rent when you want inquiries about an offer.

Write down what is included before you open the form. A parking space, storage area, furniture package or adjoining plot should only be described as included if that is part of the actual offer. If several units share a building, identify the unit so photographs and measurements do not imply the whole building is available.

Prepare the facts the listing form needs

Use the asking amount you intend to display, with its currency. The website requires a positive price or estimated value and an area with a unit. For a rental, the form asks for monthly rent. Explain additional charges separately in the description so a reader can distinguish the rent from the total expected cost.

A number without its measurement basis can mislead. State whether the area describes land, built space or usable interior space, and keep it consistent with any supporting records. If a figure is an estimate, say so. Do not turn a map-derived area into a claimed surveyed area.

  • Property type and listing purpose
  • Asking amount and currency; monthly amount for rent
  • Area, unit and what the measurement covers
  • Country, region, place name and accurate map position
  • Original description and current photographs
  • A usable private phone number or email for sale and rental listings

Check the location and the visual evidence

Locate the actual property rather than a convenient town centre. Compare the pin with roads, entrances and the written address. A rural plot may need both a boundary drawing to communicate its shape and a description of the entrance. A visitor should not have to guess which side of a road or development the advertisement concerns.

Choose photographs that show the offered space as it currently exists. Include the approach, important rooms or land features, and any condition a visitor would want to know about. Remove personal documents and identifying household information from photographs. Only upload images you own or are permitted to use.

Publish one complete record and review it

Add contact details in the private contact fields, not the title or description. Choose public visibility if you want people browsing MarkMyProperty to discover the listing. Review the summary before saving, then open the resulting property page and read it as a stranger would: can you understand the location, amount, area and offer without contacting the owner first?

Improve an existing listing through My Properties instead of repeatedly publishing copies. Duplicates with slightly different prices or titles make comparison harder. If your offer changes, edit its purpose and details. When the offer is no longer current, change its visibility or purpose to reflect that.

Keep a useful response checklist

Prepare answers to the questions your listing leaves open: available viewing times, access arrangements, what is included and the source of the measurements. Provide supporting information through an appropriate private channel when needed; an online listing is not a place to publish identity documents or confidential ownership records.

Use inquiry patterns to improve the advertisement. If several people ask whether the price includes furniture, add a clear sentence about it. If people cannot find the entrance, clarify directions. Better information helps readers decide whether to inquire; it does not guarantee a sale, rental or a particular search ranking.

Frequently asked questions

What information do I need to list a property online?

Prepare the location, property type, purpose, asking amount, currency, area and unit, description and photographs. MarkMyProperty sale and rental listings also need a valid private phone number or email.

Can I list a property without a broker?

You can publish your own property on MarkMyProperty and connect through the platform contact workflow. MarkMyProperty charges no brokerage commission. Local transaction requirements and any separately hired professionals still apply.

Should I create a new listing when the price changes?

Edit the existing property in My Properties. Keeping one current record avoids conflicting copies and makes it easier to share a consistent property page.
